Primal

PRIMAL, the debut play from award-winning author Ciarán Collins ran from the 5th – 9th March in the Cork Arts Theatre. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Shaun O Connor, it was presented as part of the Cork Arts Theatre’s ‘Emerging Artists Program 2019’, supported by the Arts Council.

PRIMAL is a battle of wits between a Professor (Jack Walsh – Killinaskully, Fair City ) and his student Buckley (Tommy Harris – Rebellion, The Young Offenders ). It opens with a simple accusation of plagiarism, but it soon becomes clear there’s much more at stake – leading our story through twists and turns. PRIMAL is a dark exploration of masculinity and power structures, punctuated by distinctly Cork humour, and building to a stunning conclusion that leaves audiences discussing the work long after the performance has ended.
